Don't Be Fooled by the Rocks That I got
A thought crossed my mind as I have been watching the world pass me by. We are beginning to wake up and stir about in a completely different world, version 2.0, if you will. Or should we say version million gajillion billion squared π to infinity and beyond? All that exists around me is impermanent, meaning nothing lasts forever. Humans have gone through millions of years of continuous change, adaptation, and evolution.
These thoughts filling my brain brought to mind a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote where he said;
"The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be."
Can it be that easy? Can you just decide one day, this is who I will be? Can you become the hero of your own story? It sounds so simple, become the person you decide to be. Making the decision to be your very best is very simple. However, we don't live in a bubble (not yet). There is a myriad of things that are out of our control and can/do affect us. So what do we have? We have a choice, your choices, and we can make a choice every single day to do something different.
Becoming the person we want to be is a choice; you choose your own adventure and how you will react to the challenges that are presented to you. I had to learn this over and over again, and still, sometimes, I fall flat on my face. But I get up, dust myself off, and smile at my monkey mind that shot off into an emotional or knee jerk reaction from an old version of Cristian that I thought has been retired.
To have a choice, we need to be present at this moment in time. Could you feel your breath as you finished that sentence? Do you know if you breathed in awhile? Far too often, we are on autopilot going from one activity to the next, not aware of what's going on around us, and especially inside of us. In order to have a choice, we need to be present to make it. To become the people we want, we need to think about what we want to be. Some, if not a lot of people believe their life has been predetermined from the first breath they had taken.
Some people like me thought they were destined for failure with a defeatist attitude that would rationalize success, and if it was even worth trying. I mean, what's the point if you are going to lose? In a sense, our life is predetermined, but it is us who is determining it
Luckily for us, we are not static; to this day, we are evolving, changing, and adjusting to our surroundings finding new norms, and new routines. More importantly, life is always changing based on your actions and decisions you are making right now, which are largely influenced by your beliefs as to what's possible.
If you believe you are destined to be a failure and you do the things that failures do, you'll very likely end up being a failure. If you believe you're destined for greatness and you do the things highly successful people do, you'll likely do well in life. A desired life doesn't happen by accident; it is cultivated by the choices you make today.
